Yuvraj Singh at his sublime best

Dilli Boy Yuvraj Singh silenced his critics in style, as he hit a sublime 57 runs off 44 balls at the Wankhede on Tuesday. Coming in to bat after the fall of two quick wickets, Yuvi turned the clock back as he hit marvelously all around the park. Some of the more memorable shots included a punch through the covers, and the trademark hoik over backward square leg.

Batting first, the Daredevils posted 152 runs for the loss of 6 wickets, thanks to the heroics of Yuvraj, who peppered the field with seven boundaries and two sixes, bringing up his second fifty of this year’s Indian Premier League. Assisting him, skipper JP Duminy and Shreyas Iyer put up good starts, but failed to convert them as some superb bowling by the Mumbai Indians pegged the Delhi brigade back.

The Daredevils got off to a flying start in the second innings, dismissing in-form Lendl Simmons off the very first ball. Thereafter, three quick wickets ensured that the Mumbai team was reeling at 40/4 in the 6th over. When the rain came in to halt the game, the Mumbai Indians were behind by 17 runs with Delhi in a commanding position. However, it was after the game resumed, and after it became difficult to grip the ball, that a superb batting effort led by captain, Rohit Sharma took the Indians over the line.

Eventually, it was a decisive partnership between Ambati Rayadu and Kieron Pollard that sealed the deal for Mumbai, however, credit must go to Delhi for taking the match to the last over. As the action moves to the colosseum called the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, expect the Dilli Boys to come out roaring, with a rejuvenated and spirited Yuvraj Singh at the top of his game.
