Rain intervened in Bangalore on Sunday, as the Delhi Daredevils were deprived of a chance to capitalize on their strong start, and end their season on a high.

Batting first at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Daredevils skyrocketed to 55 runs in the Powerplay overs, without the loss of a single wicket. This was Delhi’s highest opening stand in the first six overs. The batting display was largely fueled by a blitzkrieg of an innings by South African Quinton de Kock, who hit nine fours and three sixes to end up on 69 off just 39 deliveries. Young turk, Shreyas Iyer, who was de Kock’s partner, met with an odd failure, as he fell for just 20.

However, the Dilli Boys’ Superman of a captain, JP Duminy, compensated for Iyer’s performance, and put up a 55 run partnership with de Kock to take Delhi ahead at a run rate of almost ten. Some smart bowling by Yuzvendra Chahal and Harshal Patel ensured that Delhi were pegged back a tad under 200. The innings ended on 187/5, with some complimentary lusty blows from Saurabh Tiwary.

187 would always be a good target to defend, and the Delhi bowlers were in for a disappointment when rain intervened in the second over of the Bangalore innings and the play had to be stopped with Bangalore on 2/0. The match thereafter never resumed due to bad weather and was eventually called off.

Delhi Daredevils finished their campaign on a high as far as their batting was concerned, and will really be looking forward to 2016, to conquer the summit of the Indian Premier League. After all, Dilli Boys never back down at the sight of any challenge.
