RR vs DC | Tough loss for Capitals against Royals in Jaipur

The Delhi Capitals played some good cricket at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium but fell short by 12 runs as they were handed their second defeat of the season by Rajasthan Royals (RR).

Our skipper, Rishabh Pant became the first player to make his 100th appearance for Delhi Capitals in the IPL. He won the toss and elected to field at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Mukesh Kumar and Anrich Nortje replaced Ishant Sharma and Shai Hope in the Playing XI.

Mukesh Kumar gave us a perfect start with the ball as he bamboozled Yashasvi Jaiswal with a top-notch delivery in his first over. The pacer got the better of Jaiswal for the second time in the IPL, who got out for 5.

Local boy Khaleel Ahmed got the second with a sharp short delivery in the powerplay, sending back Rajasthan Royals captain, Sanju Samson, for 15 in his third over.

Our bowlers maintained the pressure on the Royals after the powerplay. Kuldeep Yadav immediately got into the act in the 8th over. Our magician trapped Jos Buttler LBW on just his second ball after a brilliant DRS decision.

Ravichandran Ashwin, promoted to number 5, played his part before he fell prey to Axar Patel in the final over of his quota to add a wicket to his tally.

Dhurv Jurel and Riyan Parag had stitched a solid partnership for the Royals in the middle overs. However, Anrich Nortje knocked over the stumps of Dhruv Jurel in the 18th over to bag his first wicket of IPL 2024. First of many, we hope!

The Royals, then, accelerated in the final two overs of the innings to add 40 runs to their scoreboard against Mukesh Kumar and Anrich Nortje, ending with 185/5.

Our openers from down under, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh gave us a brisk start to the proceedings with the bat before Nandre Burger clinched the wickets of Marsh and Ricky Bhui in the 4th over.

Warner, however, kept the scoreboard moving while maintaining a good tempo to the innings.

The Australian southpaw, then, laid a strong foundation alongside Rishabh Pant. However, his innings was cut short by Avesh Khan in the 12th over on 49 before he could make it 3 fifties in a row against the Royals.

Soon after, we also lost our skipper for 28, who was making impactful strides in the match. Our super impact sub, Abishek Porel was also dismissed early in the 16th over.

Tristan Stubbs stood tall for us and pulled things back with two sixes in the next over against Ashwin.

The Royals bowlers, however, held their nerve in the final two overs, handing us our second successive defeat.

Brief Scores: Rajasthan Royals 185/5 in 20 overs with Riyan Parag 84(45); Axar Patel 1 / 21, Khaleel Ahmed 1 / 24; beat Delhi Capitals 173/5 in 20 overs with David Warner 49(34), Tristan Stubbs 44*(23); Yuzvendra Chahal 2/19; by 12 runs.
