Gauti will be a good captain for Delhi Daredevils

Virender Sehwag

Virender SehwagI am ready for my comeback from the break following the shoulder injury and am raring to go at the Irani Cup, where I will be leading the Rest of India team.
While leading the team is always an honour, I also feel that in cricket each team must slowly build a captain for the future. He should be younger and slowly be in a position to take over in the future.

That was one of the main reasons, why I requested GMR Sports Management to step down. I would like to thank them for their understanding in accepting my request.
Personally, I would like to concentrate on my own batting and contribute to the team. Gautam did a great job of captaining Delhi and also during IPL-2 in South Africa this year.

I wish Gautam all the best. He has shown very good leadership skills and will bring fresh energy into the Delhi Daredevils.

I have seen and played with Gautam for Delhi, Delhi Daredevils and India for years and have seen him grow and mature as a player. He had led Delhi and Delhi Daredevils in the past and he is ready for bigger roles.

Often I am asked about captaincy of the Indian team.  I have been the vice-captain of India for sometime. While I have never said no to captaincy, right now I do not want to be a Vice-captain.

I want to continue to score runs and keep winning matches for the team.

As to who should take over as Vice-captain of India, that is something for the selectors to decide. They are in the best position to make that selection.

Our Fan Gets Visitors, Guess Who Are They?

Our blogger is a very busy man. He has been following our DareDevils for a long time now. And guess what? He just caught few DareDevils visiting our fan’s home. Who are these fans? Which DareDevils visited them? Just check out what our blogger has to offer you this time. Also watch a snap shot of shirtless DareDevils which our blogger managed to to take.

Our Delhi Daredevils will be playing their first match at the Feroz Shah Kotla on the 19th of April against the Rajasthan Royals. 104 FM, a Delhi based radio channel conducted a contest called the “Captains knock”. In this contest, all the participating listeners were supposed to send in smses inviting the players to there home. People who sent the best messages were chosen as winners and visited by the players of the team.

I had the opportunity of seeing a couple of episodes live. Glen Mcgrath and Daniel Vettori left for the fans houses on the morning of the 14th of April , in different 104 fm SUVs. I decided to follow Glen Mcgrath, he being my personal favorite. Lot of media people from different channels and news papers also followed along with a group of Bhangra dancers, dressed up in the traditional Punjabi attire. Soon we reached the house of the lucky winner. By the time I found a place to park my car in the congested lanes of west Delhi, the bhangra group started of with there dancing stint in front of the winner’s house. Soon Glenn got off the car and entered the house. There were a lot of relatives and friends of the contestant along with her eagerly waiting for the Australian legend. The moment he entered there was a lot of hustle bustle all around as everybody wanted to have a moment with him. Lot of people could be seen asking him for autographs and photographs with him standing along. After all this got over he finally met with the winner who happened to be a young 20 year old girl. Glenn handed her the match passes along with the goodie bag and invited her to the match along with her family After everything got over we all exchanged goodbyes and headed back to the hotel. Check the videos and see for yourself!

The Importance of being- De Villiers

By AB De Villiers

The last few days have been amazing. I came straight from the series against Australia into the IPL. I joined the team a little late and just before the first match because of my international commitments, but I was following all that was happening.

In fact even in the weeks before there was so much interest in it.

The fact that IPL was to come to South Africa made it all the more interesting for the locals. South Africans love their sport and cricket is certainly a favourite right now with all the world’s top stars and the celebrities here in South Africa.

For me personally, I was looking forward to playing in India, where the atmosphere at a cricket game is just incredible.

Having said I am quite happy to play at home and more so when the matches are in Johannesburg as I can be at home.

The interaction has been great with players and I have telling them about the country and also where they can go to eat and enjoy themselves. Of course with a tight schedule there is hardly anytime for sight-seeing, but the food can be great.

As for the on-field action, were three in three and the fourth game is about to happen.

It has been a great season for me and I am glad I was able to come good against Chennai with that century which was very satisfying as it helped the team win.

IT is always a great feeling to get the team to the win, as runs become useful and meaningful only then, as a cricket team needs a contribution from everyone.

I have been asked about the Durban wicket. It is quite difficult to bat in the morning, and it can spin, but we showed we could handle that well. And for me the stroke playing was natural. I am a natural strokeplayer and in 20-20 you don’t have to go out to the middle with high expectations. You can go out there and enjoy yourself and if you come off with a few good runs very quickly.
