DD vs SRH: DD Look to Begin Home Stretch with a Win

Our previous encounter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad did not go as planned and we succumbed to defeat by 7 wickets at Hyderabad. There were some positives and notable performances from our side though. Prithvi Shaw brought up his second half-century of the season and his innings of 65 off 36 balls was laced with six fours and three sixes. The teenager looked in fabulous touch. Shaw was ably supported by skipper Shreyas Iyer (44), who has had himself a great VIVO IPL 2018 so far on an individual front.

Among our bowlers, veteran leggie Amit Mishra bowled a superb spell giving away just 19 runs and bagging 2 wickets in his allotted four overs. The spell gave us a fighting chance in a game that was quickly running away from our hands. Liam Plunkett bowled yet another economical spell and came out with figures of 1/27. A couple dropped catches took the game away from us and we couldn’t get over the line.

The reverse fixture will take place at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. DD will surely look to put the ghosts of the past away and get back to winning ways with the slightest of chances to qualify. SRH on the other hand are riding high on confidence after a few back to back wins. They currently occupy the top spot on the table.

Key Players for DD

It’s a massive game under the circumstances, and DD will turn towards their in-form stalwarts and young guns. With four back-to-back games at the Kotla, the DD squad would love to begin the home stretch on a winning note.

Amit Mishra

Amit Mishra is a vital cog in the DD bowling attack, and he holds the key to a good bowling performance against the Hyderabad outfit. If Mishra can spin a web around Williamson and Co., it will go a long way in preventing SRH from scoring big. Being the experienced campaigner, he has been rising to the occasion in the last few games in tough encounters. The squad will hope for just that, yet again.

Prithvi Shaw

The teenage sensation, Prithvi Shaw has succeeded in giving the team a good start more often than not. He has delivered with the bat in most games. With two fine fifties and a couple of quickfire cameos to his name, he has cemented his position in the team. His form has also earned him a call-up to the India A side. With his fearless strokeplay in the powerplay, Shaw will be a key player for us in this all-important match.

Rishabh Pant’s unorthodox style of play makes it difficult for the opposition to set fields for him, and he has been using that to his advantage. He has been in fine form throughout the tournament and has bailed us out of trouble time and again. He has been at the forefront, whether DD are chasing or setting targets. He has also been rewarded with a call-up to the India A squad for his brutal display this season. He’ll be raring to go big against the SunRisers.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer has been in phenomenal touch this season. He has also led from the front and done justice to the additional responsibility of being captain. He’ll want to keep that going as we head into the final stretch.

With the likes of Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar on top of their bowling game, the SRH attack sure is potent. Therefore, the stability Iyer provides to our top order will be of paramount importance in this must-win game against SRH.

With two wins in three games, our recent record at the Kotla has been good. Mathematically, there might be the slimmest of chances to qualify. However, the team won’t want to think about the permutations and combinations and the results that need to go our way. They’ll want to take it one game at a time and execute what is in their control down to a T. The need of the hour is to get four wins in a row on our home turf, and Shreyas Iyer’s men will look to give it their all and do just that.
