Daredevils sign on exciting Henriques; trade Shah and Tiwary
NEW DELHI, January 6: Delhi Daredevils have signed on the exciting and young Moises Henriques for the third season of the Indian Premier League. With the transfer window ending on January 5, Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders were the only teams involved in trades. There were only three transfers in the trading window.
The New South Wales Blues batsman Henriques also played in the Champions League.
Daredevils swapped Owais Shah for Henriques and also traded Manoj Tiwary, who will now play for KKR this coming season. Delhi have also released veteran Glenn McGrath after two seasons.
Amrit Mathur, Delhi's Chief Operating Officer, said “We are very delighted to have signed on Moises Henriques. We see immense potential in this young and dynamic cricketer, who will help us strengthen our team. I am certain that our Delhi Daredevils fans will also love to watch this talented player”.
Henriques is widely considered to be one of the most prodigious young talents in Australian cricket. At just 16 years of age, he was selected for the Australian U-19 cricket team's squad for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2004 in Bangladesh.
He went on to captain of the Australian under-19 team for the 2006 U-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka, and performed to great acclaim as he led the Australians to a semi-final berth. He made his full international debut in a Twenty20 International against New Zealand in Sydney.
The eight teams will now go in for the auction on January 19. For the auction on January 19, the franchises' spending will be capped at $750,000.
Meanwhile Deccan Chargers also released Sri Lankan batsman Chamara Silva and bowler Nuwan Zoysa.
In 2009, over 100 players registered an interest in being included in the auction and 50 were presented for the 17 available places in the franchises' squads.
IPL 2010 is set to start on March 12 in Hyderabad, with the finals to be played on April 25 in Mumbai.
not quite happy with Moises\' inclusion...
we hv seen ipl\'s previous edition and Henriques was one of the weakest players for KKR...
Sorry DD... being a great fan of DD... i m not at all delighted...
Good Deal
it will be a very good pic.
keep it up........
Delhi Daredevils have a very good batting line up with powerful sloggers like Sehwag,Gambhir,Dilshan,AB deVillers,David Warner.
Delhi having released Glenn McGrath should now concentrate on their bowling.Wicketkeeper Dinesh Kartik seems good with bat but needs to work on his keeping.Delhi should purchase a good wicketkeeper in this years auction.
DelhiDaredevils rock!!!
