Tracking (Nov 30) – Gambhir – Sehwag in a run-fest for India; de Villiers, Vettori and Collingwood shine
Delhi Daredevils star pair Gautam Gambhir (167) and Virender Sehwag (131) were in sizzling form as they both hit centuries against Sri Lanka in the second Test at Kanpur. They put on 233 runs and India won by an innings and 144 runs.
Elsewhere in South Africa, Daredevil AB De Villiers playing against England scored a breathtaking 121 to help South Africa to a big 112-run win in the third ODI. In the same match, another Daredevil Paul Collingwood smashed 86 runs. In the very next match, Collingwood also excelled with the ball as he took two for 20 and England won the fourth match.
Keeping the Daredevil flag flying was Daniel Vettori with a 99 in the first Test against Pakistan in Dunedin in New Zealand. The Kiwis won the match by 32 runs.
India v Sri Lanka, TEST SERIES
Nov 24-27 – India v Sri Lanka, 2nd Test at Kanpur
Daredevil Gautam Gambhir (167) continued the amazing run that has made him the No.1 Test batsman in the world, and he also combined in a sensational 233-run stand for the opening wicket with another Daredevil Virender Sehwag (131) as India outplayed Sri Lanka by an innings and 144 runs in the second Test of the three-match series. During their partnership Gambhir and Sehwag broke a series of records. India lead 1-0 in the series, as the Test was drawn.
India scored 642 in their only innings and then dismissed Sri Lanka for 229 in their first innings during which Daredevil TM Dilshan, centurion in first Test, was dismissed first ball by Zaheer Khan. Following on, Sri Lanka were again dismissed for 269 and Dilshan made 11.
Interestingly Sehwag bowled three for four runs and took the wicket of opener NT Paranvitana (20).
New Zealand v Pakistan, TEST SERIES
Nov 24-28, 2009 – NZ v Pakistan, Dunedin – 1st Test
New Zealand skipper and Delhi Daredevil star Daniel Vettori came within one run of his fourth Test century before he was dismissed for 99 against Pakistan in Dunedin. Vettori put on 164 with Brendon McCullum (78) as New Zealand scored 429.
Pakistan in reply scored 332 and Vettori took two for 64 in 27 overs including wickets of Kamran Akmal (82) and Umar Gul. Vettori also took the catch of Mohammed Aamer.
In the second innings New Zealand, 97 ahead, were bowled out for 153 with Vettori contributing just eight. Pakistan needing 251 to win were dismissed for 218 and lost by 32 runs. Vettori again captured two for 51 in 14 overs.
South Africa v England, ODI SERIES
Nov 29, 2009 – South Africa v England, Port Elizabeth– 4th ODI
England bounced back from a big defeat by dismissing South Africa for just 119 in 36.5 overs. AB De Villiers scored 22, the second highest after AN Petersen’s 51. De Villiers also took a catch to dismiss Kevin Pietersen.
Paul Collingwood, took two for 20 in four overs besides a catch to dismiss R McLaren. Collingwood failed with the bat, scoring just two, but England reached 121 for three in 31.3 overs to win by seven wickets and again go 2-1 in the series afer four matches. The first match was washed out.
Nov 27, 2009 – South Africa v England, Cape Town – 3rd ODI
Delhi Daredevils brilliant middle order bat, AB De Villiers smashed England attack around the park for 121 runs in 85 balls with 14 fours and took South Africa to 354 for six in 5 overs in the second ODI. He put on 97 with Hashim Amla (86) for second wicket and then 95 with AN Petersen (51 not out) for fourth wicket.
In reply England despite Daredevil Paul Collingwood’s a steady 86 off 82 balls with seven fours and three six were unable to get close to their target of 355. England were dismissed for 242 in 41.3 overs and lost by 112 runs.
AB De Villiers was adjudged Man of the Match. The series is now 1-1. England won the first match.
