
Tracking the Daredevils (Nov 9) - De Villiers returns with a half century
AB De Villiers signaled his return from injury with a fine half century in South African win over Zimbabwe in the opening one-dayer in Benoni. Also returning from injury was Paul Collingwood who was also back in action for England in a Tour match in South Africa. Gautam Gambhir scored two fifties in the first three games and De Villiers opened the series with a half-century.
As many as six Delhi Daredevils players, including skipper, Gambhir, are engaged in various international series currently. While Gambhir, Virender Sehwag and Ashish Nehra are playing against Australia, De Villiers is back in action for South Africa against Zimbabwe and Daniel Vettori has led New Zealand to a series win over Pakistan in neutral venue, Abu Dhabi. Collingwood is playing for England in South Africa.
India v Australia, ODI Series
Nov 8, 2009 – India v Australia, Guwahati – 6th ODI
It was an uneventful match for Daredevils, as Virender Sehwag scored just six and Gautam Gambhir was out for no score, both dismissed in the very first over. Later Ashish Nehra bowled three overs for 21 runs without any success. India made 170 and Australia reached the target with 172 for four in 41.5 overs to wrap up the series 4-2 with one match to go.
Nov 5, 2009 – India v Australia, Hyderabad – 5th ODI
Virender Sehwag opening with Sachin Tendulkar (175) made 38 in 30 balls with five fours and one six. The pair put on 66 for the first wicket in 8.5 overs. Gautam Gambhir returning to the team after missing a match due to injury, made eight runs at No. 3 position. The other Daredevil in the match, Ashish Nehra took one for 79 in 10 overs. Australia made 350 for four in 50 overs and then despite a valiant chase by India, the home team were bowled out for 347 to lose by three runs. Sachin made 175 141 balls with 19 fours and four sixes. The series is now 3-2 for Australia.
Nov 2, 2009 – India v Australia, Mohali – 4th ODI
Gautam Gambhir missed the match due to injury and Virender Sehwag made 30 in just 19 balls with seven fours, while the other Daredevil in the match, Ashish Nehra bowled eight overs for 37 runs and took three wickets – that of Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Johnson and Peter Siddle. Nehra also ran out Cameron White. Australia scored 250 in 49.2 overs and dismissed India for 226 in 46.4 overs to win by 24 runs. The series is tied 2-2.
New Zealand v Pakistan in Abu Dhabi - (Neutral Venue)
Nov 9, 2009 – New Zealand v Pakistan, 3rd ODI - (Abu Dhabi) – D/N
Delhi Daredevil star, Daniel Vettori led New Zealand to a series win by 2-1 margin in three-match ODI series, as the Kiwis beat Pakistan by seven runs in the third and final match. Vettori choosing to be bat first made 15 runs, as New Zealand scored 211 in 46 overs. In reply, Pakistan were held back to 204 in 49.1 overs. Vettori took one for 42 (Kahlid Latif) in 10 overs. He also held a catch (Kamran Akmal) and helped in the run out of Abdul Razzaq.
Nov 6, 2009 – New Zealand v Pakistan, 1st ODI - (Abu Dhabi) D/N
Daniel Vettori scored a useful 30 off 33 balls as New Zealand batting first made 303 for eight in 50 overs. In reply Pakistan were dismissed 239 in 47.2 overs to lose by 64 runs. Vettori bowling his full quota of 10 overs took two for 37 with wickets of Khalid Latif and Mohammed Yousuf falling to him, both leg before wicket. Vettori also helped in the run out of Salman Butt. New Zealand level the series 1-1.
Nov 3, 2009 – New Zealand v Pakistan, 1st ODI - (Abu Dhabi) D/N
Daredevil Daniel Vettori leading New Zealand took two for 34 in 10 overs and then scored 38 runs 41 balls. But New Zealand lost the match by 138 runs, as Pakistan 287 for nine and New Zealand were all out for 149. Pakistan took 1-0 lead in the series.

Nov 8, 2009 – South Africa v Zimbabwe , 1st ODI – Benoni
Daredevil AB De Villiers, returning to international cricket after recovering from the injury that forced him to miss the Champions League for Daredevils, scored a fine run-a-ball 51 to help South Africa take a 1-0 lead in the ODI Series. He put on 90 runs with Hashim Amla (80) as South Africa made 295 for five in 50 overs. In reply, Zimbabwe despite a century by T Taibu (103 not out) were restricted to 250 for six in 50 overs. South Africa won by 45 runs to go 1-0 up in the series.

Nov 8, 2009 – Warriors v England XI – Tour Match at Kimberley
Paul Collingwood was 12 not out as England completed a eight-wicket win over Warriors in their second Tour match. Warriors made 254 for five in 50 overs and Collingwood’s six overs yielded no wickets for 46 runs. England reached the target 256 for two with AB Strauss scoring 117 not out and with him was Collingwood (12 not out) when the winning runs came.
Nov 6, 2009 - Eagles v England XI – Tour Match at Bloemfontein
Paul Collingwood, who missed the Champions League due to injury, returned to action and took two for nine in 3.4 overs as England beat Eagles by 185 runs in their second Tour match. Collingwood earlier scored eight runs, when England made 294 seven in 50 overs. Eagles were dismissed for 109.
