Sehwag walks the ramp in Kolkata
Kolkata: Virender Sehwag walked the ramp at the Kolkata Fashion Week (KFW)-II here on Wednesday, September 9. His performance sent the audience into raptures. Sehwag wore a hand-woven sherwani suit, and exuded a lot of confidence as he walked the ramp for designer Rocky S.
"Sehwag was perfectly chilled out in the attire. He was happy about what he was wearing," Rocky S. told media persons.
Asked why he had chosen a sportsman like Sehwag as a showstopper, Rocky S. said: "Sports is very important in India. So I've chosen a cricketer for the role."
Among others are sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, film actors Rituparna Sengupta and Sameera Reddy. Sarod players Ayan Ali Bangash and Aman Ali Bangash, model-cum-Bollywood heroines Amrita Rao, Rimii Sen, film actor Neil Nitin Mukhesh, actors Sophie Choudhury and Neetu Chandra, as also Brazilian model Giselle Monteiro will also be walking the ramp during the five-day event. Works of several weavers and over 40 fashion designers will be in display.
Gambhir spends time with autistic children
New Delhi: Delhi Daredevils opener Gautam Gambhir spent time with some autistic children and also played cricket with them at a school on September 7. Gambhir spent some time with the children, who are suffering from the neurological disorder, at the Action for Autism's Open Door School. The left-hander also inaugurated a 32-seater bus, donated by NGO The Special Child Trust (TSCT) to the school, at a brief ceremony.
“I did not have much idea about autism earlier. I think, it's inspirational to see how these children are fighting their problems. There should be more public awareness about the disorder," Gambhir said. The programme was organised jointly by TSCT and Action for Autism.
Gautam Gambhir unveils KPL trophy
Bangalore: Gautam Gambhir unveiled the Mantri Karnataka Premier League Trophy in a function at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on September 6. The trophy built on an aluminium base features the Karnataka map besides logos of the eight zonal teams and Mantri Developers. The KPL will commence here on September 9.
Owais Shah to play for Wellington in NZ T20 competition
Wellington: Owais Shah has signed up to play for Wellington in New Zealand's domestic Twenty20 competition next season. Earlier another Daredevil Tillakaratne Dilshan was snapped up by Northern Districts on the back of his outstanding form in the World Twenty20.
Shah is recognised as an excellent T20 player, averaging 30.68 from 55 matches in the format, with a strike rate of 133.66. The deal was organised by Stephen Fleming and the Cricket Wellington chief executive Gavin Larsen, and means Shah will be part of the Wellington squad for a month from late December. Shah is likely to bat at No. 3, which is where he batted for England.
