
Tracking the Daredevils (Sept 9) – Vettori and Dilshan battle it out in Sri Lanka
New Delhi, September 9: Delhi Daredevils stars Daniel Vettori and Tillakaratne Dilshan were pitted against each other New Zealand battled in Sri Lanka in the T20 and ODI series.
Sri Lanka v New Zealand, ODI Series
September 8, 2009 – Sri Lanka v New Zealand, Colombo – 1st ODI
Daniel Vettori bowled eight overs for 31 runs and took one wicket but New Zealand still lost by 97 runs to Sri Lanka in the first ODI. Vettori also scored 10 runs. For Lanka TIllakartane Dilshan was dismissed early for just four runs. New Zealand were all out for 119 in 36.1 overs reply to Lanka’s 216 for seven in 50 overs.
Australia v England, ODI Series
September 9, 2009 – Australia v England, Southampton – 3rd ODI
Daredevil Paul Collingwood scored 28 in 52 balls and Owais Shah managed only eight, as England 228 for eight in 50 overs crashed to their third straight loss, this time by six wickets to Australia, who made 230 for four in 48.3 overs. Collingwood bowled seven overs for 39 runs and took one wicket.
September 6, 2009 – Australia v England, Southampton – 3rd ODI
Daredevil Paul Collingwood (56, 84b, 3x4) smashed one of the only two half centuries of the match, but once again Australia won the match by 39 runs to go 2-0 up in the ODI series. Collingwood was bowled by Brett Lee, as England chasing 250 for a win were all out for 210. Owais Shah scored 12 in 12 balls with two fours. Collingwood bowled four overs for 19 for no wicket.
September 4, 2009 – Australia v England, Oval – 1st ODI
Daredevil Paul Collingwood’s performance went in vain as Australia beat England by four runs in 1st ODI at Oval. Collingwood took two for 47 in nine over’s (Shane Watson and MJ Clarke) and ran out CL White. Then he scored 23 runs in 39 balls with one four. Owais Shah contributed 40 in 48 balls with four fours for England. Australia made 260 for five and England were held back to 256 for eight in 50 overs as Australia won by four runs.
Sri Lanka v New Zealand T20 series
September 4, 2009 – New Zealand v Sri Lanka, Colombo – 2nd T20
Daniel Vettori took none for 27 in three overs but did not get to bat as New Zealand won by 22 runs. New Zealand made 170 for four and Sri Lanka were 148 for eight. Dilshan Tillakaratne made just for Sri Lanka.
September 2, 2009 – New Zealand v Sri Lanka, Colombo – 1st T20
Delhi Daredevils senior spinner Daniel Vettori grabbed two crucial wickets for 11 runs in four overs and was adjudged Man of the Match as New Zealand won by three runs in the first T20 match. New Zealand scored 141 in 20 overs and restricted Sri Lanka to 138 for nine. Vettori was dismissed for a first ball zero.
For Lanka, Daredevil Dilshan Tillakaratne scored a fine 57, the highest for his team with eight fours and two sixes in 28 balls and 40 minutes.
BCCI Corporate Challenge
Sept 1, 2009 - BPCL v MRF at Mohali in BCCI Corporate Challenge
Aavishkar Salvi, turning out for Bharat Petroleum Corporation, took three for 37 in nine overs. Despite Salvi’s efforts, BPCL lost to MRF by 12 runs by the VJD method.
Other Daredevils in the tournament include Gautam Gambhir, Mithun Manhas and Amit Mishra for ONGC and Vijaykumar Yo Mahesh is playing for Madras Rubber Factory (MRF).
Australia v England T20 Series
September 1, 2009 – Australia v England, Manchester – 2nd T20
The match was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Paul Collingwood and Owais Shah were in the English team and David Warner was in the XI for Australia.
August 30, 2009 – Australia v England, Manchester – 1st T20
Daredevil David Warner scored 33 (26b, 3x4) before being caught leg-before by fellow Daredevil Paul Collingwood in the first T20 match between Australia and England. Collingwood took two for 20 in four over as Australia made 145 for four in 20 overs. England were in trouble at four for two in 1.1 overs but the match was called off because of rain. Also playing in the match was Dirk Nannes, who neither got to bat or bowl.
Australia v Scotland – Only T20
August 28, 2009 – Australia v Scotland, Edinburgh – Only T20
On Aug 28 in Edinburgh, Dirk Nannes made his debut in the only ODI between Australia and Scotland. Nannes took one for 20 in seven overs dismissing DF Watts. Earlier Nannes scored one run. Also playing in the same match, Daredevil David Warner scored a zero. Australia scored 345 in 50 overs and Scotland 156 in 39.3 overs as Australia won by 189 runs.
