Delhi Daredevils Cricket Dhamaka goes to Gwalior

GWALIOR, September 1: The Coca-Cola Delhi Daredevils Cricket Dhamaka will make it entry into Gwalior’s famous Chatri Bazar Stadium this weekend. After a highly successful debut at the traditional Ram Lila Grounds in Old Delhi, Delhi Daredevils Cricket Dhamaka will venture into its catchment area in Gwalior from September 5 to 7, 2009.
 
The tournament to be organised by Gwalior Division Cricket Association in association with GMR Sports-backed Delhi Daredevils will see eight teams will vie for a purse of Rs. 60,000. The winner will take home Rs. 21,000 and the runner-up Rs. 11,000. The losing semi-finalists will get Rs. 5,000 each. Each six will fetch Rs. 100 and a maiden over will be worth Rs. 300.
 
Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia, MP, who is also President of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, will be the Chief Guest and give away the prizes.
 
The tennis-ball tournament features eight teams of 10 players each, with only six playing in any game. Each match will last 10 overs with each side getting to play five overs. Five of the six players in each team will bowl one over each and a batsman has to retire once he reaches 30 runs.
 
The tournament which will have 15 matches will be played under floodlights.
 
The teams will be divided into two groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-final and the winners will feature in the final.
 
Madhya Pradesh is a catchment area for the Delhi Daredevils, who also hope to unearth some young talent in the area in the future.
 
Cricket Dhamaka is a series of tournaments aimed at popularising the sport and bringing fans of Delhi Daredevils closer to their team.
 
The first Cricket Dhamaka was held at the Ram Lila Grounds in Delhi, where teams from the Walled city in Delhi participated. The tournament was a big success with almost thousands of spectators turning up to cheer the local cricketers.
