Daredevil Dilshan is Man of the Tournament at T20 World Cup
Delhi Daredevils’ star batsman Dilshan Tillakaratne is now the highest scorer in the T20 World Cup with an aggregate of 382 runs in 12 matches in two World Cups (2007 and 2009).
The Sri Lankan, one of the 10 Delhi Daredevils stars figuring in the World Cup, scored 317 runs with three fifties (including a 96 not out) in seven matches to emerge as the Man of the Tournament. Facing just 217 deliveries, he had a strike rate of 144.7 and hit 46 fours and three sixes to carry his team to the finals, where they lost to Pakistan.
Interestingly, the second highest scorer in T20 World Cups is also a Daredevils – Gautam Gambhir, who has an aggregate of 375 in 12 matches in two World Cups (2007 and 2009). Gambhir scored 148 runs with one fifty in five matches at the 2009 edition. He was the second highest scorer for India this year.
Dilshan’s performance was so dominating that he scored 79 runs more than the second highest scorer, Jacques Kallis of South Africa (238). Also Dilshan’s tally of 46 fours, was way ahead of the next best of 28 by Kallis.
Of the 10 Delhi Daredevils players, two – skipper Virender Sehwag and Farveez Maharoof – did not play any matches. Sehwag returned early due to a shoulder injury.
